Counselling vs. Life Coaching
What is the difference?
Coaching focuses on the present and how to move into a desired future. Sometimes the past is touched on in order to gain understanding of the present, but coaching doesn’t attempt to unearth and heal wounds from a person’s past. Coaching sometimes has healing side effects, but it’s not technically a healing or therapeutic modality. Counselling delves into a client’s past in order to support the healing of a person’s traumas or developmental disruptions. They’re trained in therapeutic interventions and traumatic processing in order to facilitate a client’s healing. Counsellors also provide support for those suffering from addictions and mental health disorders, while coaching does not. Counselling can often resemble coaching as some forms are goal orientated and help move to a desired future.
